Tony Bennett Says Amy Winehouse Knew 'She Wasn't Gonna Live'
Tony Bennett made an appearance on 'The Daily Show' with Jon Stewart last night. He spoke of his new album 'Duets II', which makes him the record holder for being the oldest artist to ever enter the Billboard 200 chart at #1. Bennett is 85. He also spoke of his special collaboration with Amy Winehouse and how troubled she seemed.
"Well, she was in trouble at that time because she had a couple of engagements that she didn't keep up," Bennett said of Winehouse. "But what people didn't realize at that time, that she really knew -- in fact, I didn't even know it when we were making the record, now looking at the whole thing -- she knew that she was in a lot of trouble, that she wasn't gonna live. And it wasn't drugs, it was alcohol, toward the end, you know."
Bennett's observation that Winehouse was no longer addicted to drugs but continued to struggle with alcohol is in line with her family's assertion that "there were no illegal substances in Amy's system at the time of her death." The coroner's full investigation into the singer's July 23rd death is due next month; Winehouse's father has claimed she died after suffering a seizure from alcohol withdrawal.
Bennett also tried to contextualize Winehouse's contributions to the music world, explaining why she had appealed to him so much despite her troubles. "It's such a sad thing because, since Elvis Presley and the Beatles and the Rolling Stones and the whole contemporary change that came in, she was the only singer that really sang what I call the right way," he mused. "Because she was a great jazz-pop singer. She was a great jazz singer. A true jazz singer."

Beyonce and JayZ Celebrate with Gwyneth Paltrow on her Birthday
According to Us Weekly, Gwyneth Paltrow recently celebrated her 39th birthday with girl pal Beyonce in the New York City West Villiage restaurant, Tertulia. The girls were joined by their husbands, JayZ and Chris Martin from Coldplay. Beyonce must have only wanted to do something special for Paltrow as well, after Gwyneth visited her aboard a rented yacht in Venice, Italy for her 30th birthday just earlier this month.
The two have been known to gush over each other. Last month Beyonce even told Harper’s Bazaar UK that Paltrow is who she "strives to be one day," and said, "You go to her house and she makes you feel like you never want to go home.”
The feeling is totally mutual. Gwyneth only had good things to say about Beyonce when she spoke with Harper's Bazaar UK in January. She told the magazine, "No one else can sing and dance like that, while having humour and genuine bursting sweetness."

Lenny Kravitz Covers Block Magazine
Lenny Kravitz is looking cool as a cucumber in his latest spread for 'Block Magazine' Fall/Winter 2011/2012 issue. The rockstar looks like he's still in top form. Kravitz talks about growing up as the child of an interracial couple in his interview with the publication.
“I grew up in the middle of everything, he says of being told by others he wasn’t enough of one or the other. “I never fit into a box. I love that. At one of my shows, you’ll see a seven-year-old kid and a sixty-five-year-old woman and everything in between, every color.”
He also talks about his upcoming new movie "The Hunger Games" - “It’s gonna be a huge movie” – and the self-professed reformed womanizer reveals how he now spends his days.
“Well I live in a trailer, like a little Airstream on the beach,” he says. “First thing I do is get out and look to the sky, thank God for the day, get into the water, sit, think, make music, think about where I’m gonna get lunch from. Go to the studio, make some music. In and out. Whatever I feel like doing. Hanging.”
“It’s the real rock-star life!” Check out the picture from the photo shoot.
