2012 Songs Reviewed! (RoyalKev's On Blast)

2012 is Hot! Exactly how hot? That's what we're here to discuss today.  Some legends, a few vets, as well as some that haven't really been around the block are ready to take over.  Some are hitting hard, some are hitting low, some are coming through like a pro and others not so much. We've come up with a list of what's hot right now and what's there.  See if you agree:

Latest Reviews

#1 Ke$ha - Die Young

Intoxicating, catchy and so infectious.  Some songs contain a certain magic of it's own that you cannot elude -- no matter how eager you are to discredit the individual singing it.  Ke$ha added an indie-rock feel to this treasure and still kept the party in the song. The end result is so supreme.  One has to now wonder about Ke$ha strategy here. Is she secretly a genius? She's making no attempts to sprint - full speed ahead just to lose steam.  That doesn't work if you want to win the race or remain active in it. She's not often thought of as a front runner or musical act to take too seriously. Avoiding this kind of pressure may work in her favor.  Madonna was rarely on top, matter of fact she often was outdone by diva's that showcased more obvious talent. What she did brilliantly was remain relevant. Ke$ha is clearly adopting this same rule and consistently keeping up with today's sound and making it interesting. A

New Music: Whitney Houston Featuring R. Kelly - I Look To You

R.Kelly, who is the mastermind behind Whitney Houston's song 'I Look To You' has re-worked the touching ballad and added his own accompanying vocals to honor the late diva.  Kelly also incorporated unused vocals by Whitney from the original recordings of the song (from Houston's last studio album also titled, 'I Look To You') , which gives it a completely new feel.  Although Whitney's no longer here this version elevates the song to new heights, adding even more life to a song filled with irony.  The track will be featured on the upcoming 'I Will Always Love You: The Best of Whitney Houston' set that is slated for an November 13th release.

Uptempo Songs Requested For Beyonce's Upcoming Album

After cultivating the inspiring masterpiece that was "4", Beyonce seems to be heading in a different direction for round 5.  According to Billboard approximately 15 writers showed up at Brett James’ Music Row compound for an ASCAP songwriting retreat Aug. 27-29.  Songwriters who are grounded in several different genres—country, pop, dance and Christian—spent the first two days writing songs specifically for the next BeyoncĂ© album.  BizBirch Street Music founder/CEO Jake McKim, whose company manages numerous music figures and does A&R consulting, showed a highlight reel of BeyoncĂ©’s career on the first day and reportedly requested uptempo songs with uplifting attitudes.  Seems like we can expect more 'Countdown' and 'Love On Top' numbers, which shouldn't receive to many complaints from Beyonce fans.  This sounds like a recipe for success. Oh, happy day!
